The Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, Eric Odo, has said that his administration will tackle Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, drug abuse, and human trafficking.
Mr. Odo stated this Monday when he played host to a delegation from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ezi-Ukehe, who came on a courtesy call.
Tackle SGBV and Drug Abuse with Commitment
Mr. Odo said his administration was highly committed to curbing sexual abuse and ensuring that young girls are protected from molestation. He emphasized the restoration of sanity in society through the pursuit of perpetrators in conjunction with agencies that deal with anti-narcotics to fight against illegal drugs. These, according to the chairman, will reduce criminal acts and protect vulnerable members of the Enugu society.
Focusing on the Poor and Vulnerable
Mr. Odo reiterated that his administration intends to prioritize the welfare of the poor, ensuring governance benefits all citizens and not just the wealthy few. He condemned the practice of stakeholders hijacking resources meant for the underprivileged. “Government cannot be only for the rich people. I want to be known as a chairman who prioritizes the welfare of the poor, the vulnerable, and the downtrodden,” he said.
Promoting Grassroots Development in Enugu
The chairman expressed concern over underdevelopment at the grassroots level. He stated that he would ensure that officials were held accountable to deliver services as expected. According to him, this approach will not only drive positive change but also create improved opportunities for Enugu residents at all levels of society.
Strengthening Education in Enugu
To enhance the standard of education, Mr. Odo announced the establishment of a school supervision committee. The committee will oversee teachers in both primary and secondary schools to ensure they consistently carry out their job effectively. This is to ensure improved learning outcomes and accountability within the education sector.
Conclusion
The proactive steps by Mr. Odo show commitment to the creation of safer communities, reduction of inequalities, and enhancement of education in Enugu. For more insights and policy documents on gender equality, education, and community development, visit genderpedia.ng/shop.
