Lagos

The Lagos State Government has commenced its second round of free Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health Plus Nutrition (MNCAH+N) services. The program runs from December 16 to 20 across the state. With over 1,400 healthcare service points, Lagos aims to provide essential medical care to improve family health outcomes.

Key Services Offered Across Lagos

The program offers critical services to reduce maternal and child mortality. These include vaccinations, Vitamin A supplementation, deworming for children, and malnutrition screenings. Additional services such as HIV and Tuberculosis testing, antenatal care, and postnatal care ensure families receive comprehensive support.

Counselling sessions will educate nursing mothers and caregivers on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices. Food demonstrations and guidance on hygiene, including handwashing, aim to promote better health habits for children and families across Lagos.

Mobile and Fixed Health Service Points

Lagos has strategically set up 310 fixed centers, 376 temporary points, and 752 mobile units to deliver services efficiently. This initiative ensures accessibility for families in both urban and rural communities, bringing healthcare closer to those in need.

Commitment to Family Health

The Special Adviser to the governor on Health, Kemi Ogunyemi, emphasized the government’s dedication to holistic family health. The First Lady, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, will officially flag off the event at the Shomolu Local Government Secretariat. This initiative reflects the state’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare access and reduce mortality rates among women and children.

Improving Family Health Through Education

The program includes counselling on managing minor illnesses such as malaria and malnutrition. Lagos integrates family planning services into the initiative, supporting families with essential healthcare tools. These efforts strengthen awareness, prevention, and treatment of common health challenges.

Conclusion

Lagos continues to prioritize family health by offering free and accessible medical care. This program is a vital step toward reducing maternal and child mortality while empowering families with essential health education. To explore more health-related resources, visit genderpedia.ng/shop.
