The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has shared a sad truth about women in Nigeria. She said that 31% of women aged 15 to 49 have faced physical violence.

She explained that these are not just numbers. Every number is a real woman, a daughter, a sister, a mother, or a neighbour. Each woman who suffers physical violence has a story and pain that must not be ignored.

Physical Violence Is a Big Problem

The Minister said that physical violence is not just a private issue. It affects families, communities, and the whole country. When women suffer, peace and development also suffer. She said this is a community crisis that must be solved urgently.

Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, her ministry is working on new programmes to help. The goal is to restore dignity, give more chances to women, and protect children and vulnerable people.

Ogun State’s Fight Against Physical Violence

During her visit to Ogun State, the Minister was received by Deputy Governor Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, First Lady Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, and Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye.

The Commissioner explained that the state has set up the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and the Women Development Centre. She said healing must go with rebuilding. Survivors of violence can find care and support at these centres.

At the SARC, wounds are treated, tears are wiped, and voices are restored. Survivors can start again and rebuild their lives. The Women Development Centre was also created to give them renewal, not just recovery.

Call for More Support

The Commissioner asked the Federal Government to give more support. She said more funding is needed for projects, training, and awareness to stop physical violence. She added that Ogun State is already leading, but more help will make a bigger impact.

She explained that survivors need protection, empowerment, and strong systems so no woman is left behind.

Final Thoughts on Physical Violence

Physical violence against women is a serious problem in Nigeria. Too many women are suffering, and their pain must not be ignored. Both the Federal and State governments must work together to protect women and end physical violence. Every woman deserves safety, care, and respect.
