The Enugu State Ministry of Health has joined hands with the National Association of Seadogs (NAS), also called the Pyrates Confraternity, to focus on maternal child health in the state.

This plan was announced in Enugu when NAS leaders visited the Health Commissioner, Dr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi, in his office. Dr. Obi said partnerships like this are very important because the government cannot do it alone. He explained that when groups and people work together, everyone benefits.

Why This Partnership Matters

Dr. Obi said one of the most important parts of health care is maternal and child health. He explained that during childbirth, some mothers lose a lot of blood. This can be very dangerous. Having enough blood ready to help these mothers can save lives.

The commissioner also thanked NAS for their past medical help. NAS has been running free health programs in the Enugu Correctional Centre and Abakpa Health Centre. They gave free check-ups and medicines to patients and prisoners.

NAS also works with the National Blood Service Agency in Enugu to donate blood for people who need it.

What the Seadogs Said

The Enugu chapter of NAS, led by Joe Mazeli, said their group cares a lot about health. They promised to keep helping with free medical missions and blood donations.

Dr. Joseph Oteri, the International President of NAS, agreed that helping people stay healthy is a big part of their work.

Main Goals of the Partnership

The government and NAS want to work on:

  • Improving maternal and child health so that mothers and children can live healthier lives.
  • Making sure blood is available for mothers during childbirth.
  • Creating more health programs for people in need.

Dr. Obi said this is only the beginning. He asked NAS to share ideas about other areas where they can work together to make healthcare better in Enugu State.

Why This Is Good News

This partnership means more support for mothers and children in Enugu. It shows that when the government and private groups work together, big changes can happen. Many families will benefit from better health services because of this teamwork.

Conclusion

Maternal and child health is very important for every family. When mothers and children get good care, the whole community becomes stronger. Enugu State and NAS working together will help save lives and bring hope to many homes.
