Teachers Celebrate Remarkable Achievements on World Teachers’ Day

On October 5, during the 2024 World Teachers’ Day celebration, the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) praised Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his outstanding efforts to revamp the education sector. They laud Governor Yusuf for revolutionary education reforms across Kano state. At Eagle Square in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Governor Yusuf received the prestigious NUT Golden Award, recognizing his transformative contributions. The celebration marked a rare occasion where educators lauded positive change rather than lamenting challenges in Nigeria’s education system.

Governor Yusuf’s Strategic Focus on Education

Governor Yusuf has prioritized education with significant budget allocations and policy interventions. His administration allocated 29.9% of Kano’s 2024 budget to education and declared a state of emergency in the sector, initiating swift improvements in infrastructure and access. These efforts have gained him accolades from both local stakeholders and international partners.

Key Achievements in Kano’s Education Transformation

During the award ceremony, teachers and officials highlighted Governor Yusuf’s major strides. These include the allocation of ₦2.7 billion for constructing 176 classrooms and offices across 44 local governments, the release of ₦1.9 billion for the renovation of 220 schools, and the construction of 336 new classrooms. In addition, the reopening of girls’ secondary schools previously shut down and ongoing efforts to recruit thousands of teachers reflect the governor’s commitment to inclusive education.

Collaboration with Global Partners

Governor Yusuf’s achievements have attracted support from the federal government and international organizations. His administration’s partnerships with entities like UKAid and PLANE Nigeria have bolstered education reforms, further ensuring that Kano’s youths have brighter futures. During an education recovery conference at Bayero University, the governor emphasized that education is not just a pathway to individual success but a driver of societal progress and economic development.

Endorsement from Leaders

Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso praised Governor Yusuf’s commitment, calling him a “game changer” in education reform. The governor’s efforts also received support from President Bola Tinubu, who sent his congratulations through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Conclusion

Governor Yusuf’s relentless dedication to revamping Kano’s education sector is an inspiring example of leadership in action. To explore more on gender-related issues and the role of education in empowerment, visit our store and browse relevant documents today.
